In the aftermath of the horrific Beirut Port Blast on August 4th, 2020, the international community has set up the Reform Recovery and Reconstruction framework (3RF) to help support the Lebanese. The World Bank, EU, and UN in coordination with the Government of Lebanon (GoL) and civil society representatives have developed a framework that remarkably includes heavy involvement from Civil Society organizations (CSOs) in the planning, implementation and oversight of relevant interventions. The 3RF is also strategically based on a series of essential reforms that buttress sustainable recovery and condition the biggest share of funding.
The activist Charbel Khoury was summoned on 24/2/2020 by the cybercrime bureau based on a lawsuit filed against him by the economic expert Charbel Kourdahi for a tweet posted by Khoury criticizing Kourdahi in tackling the economic crisis. The tweet included harsh criticism against Kordahi and the free patriotic movement.
The two Lebanese organisations Data Aurora and Maharat Foundation launched their interactive platform “Lebanon Protests”. An independent platform based on open data system that documents the demands of citizens and monitors the response of authorities. This platform also allows daily access to all data, statistics, and timelines related to the revolution, including discussions and engagements on social platforms all over the world, downloading and reusing them. The platform has been developed in a way that allows everyone to share and access data based on the freedom of expression and access to information rights.
Maharat condemns Persecution and discrimination against “Machrou’ Leila” Maharat condemns what happened with the band and considers it an act of persecution, discrimination and abuse of individuals’ civil, social, and cultural freedom.
On July 15th, engineer Riad El Asaad was summoned to an investigation by the cybercrime bureau in the Judicial Police, on the basis of a personal claim submitted by the contractor Jihad Al Arab to the Appeal Public Prosecution in Beirut.
