Maharat is a catalyst, defending and advancing the development of democratic societies governed by the values of freedom of expression and respect for human rights.
Maharat advances the societal and political conditions that enhance freedom of expression and access to information, both online and offline. Maharat engages and equips a progressive community in Lebanon and the MENA region with the skills and knowledge necessary to create change.
Maharat Foundation organized a training workshop on media consultancy aiming at supporting the development and viability of media institutions and presenting successful business models for independent media platforms. The workshop was organized in collaboration with Deutsche Welle Akademie for 3 days at Crowne Plaza Hotel in Beirut.
The two Lebanese organisations Data Aurora and Maharat Foundation launched their interactive platform “Lebanon Protests”. An independent platform based on open data system that documents the demands of citizens and monitors the response of authorities. This platform also allows daily access to all data, statistics, and timelines related to the revolution, including discussions and engagements on social platforms all over the world, downloading and reusing them. The platform has been developed in a way that allows everyone to share and access data based on the freedom of expression and access to information rights.
The Multistakeholder Advisory Group started the preparations for the second Lebanese Internet Governance Forum that will be held on the 19th and 20th of November to highlight the challenges faced by the digital space at the level of public policies.
Maharat Foundation organized a side event entitled “Challenges faced by journalists in the MENA region” during the 41st session of the Human Right Council in Geneva
Maharat participated in the international conference RightsCon that was held in Tunisia from the 12th till the 14th of June 2019, in the presence of more than 3000 participants from all around the world.
With the start of preparation for the 2nd Lebanese Internet Governance Forum LIGF, the Multistakeholder Advisory Group (MAG) held a meeting on June 28th 2019 at the ministry of communication.
