STUDY ON THE ALTERNATIVE MEDIA PLATFORMS IN LEBANON
This study is jointly implemented by the Arab Resource Center for Popular Arts (ARCPA/ Al-JANA), Maharat Foundation, and DW Akademie.

Maharat advances the societal and political conditions that enhance freedom of expression and access to information, both online and offline. Maharat engages and equips a progressive community in Lebanon and the MENA region with the skills and knowledge necessary to create change.

After the explosion of Ammonium Nitrate that had been long stored at the port of Beirut on August 4, 2020, that led to a catastrophe across the city and its suburbs. Massive destruction hit the capital, over 180 persons were killed, 6000 were injured, dozens went missing and thousands of citizens were rendered homeless; and on the sidelines of the 45th session of the Human Rights Council, Maharat Foundation addressed the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, Ms. Michelle Bachelet, concerning serious violations of public freedoms and access to information.
14 Lebanese and international organizations announced on July 13, 2020 the formation of a “Coalition to Defend Freedom of Expression in Lebanon” to oppose the Lebanese authorities’ attempts to stifle free speech and opinion in the country, the organizations said today.
