Targeting Journalists is a War Crime
The targeting of journalists by Israel in their residence in Hasbaya, killing three colleagues from Al-Mayadeen and Al-Manar and injuring others, constitutes a war crime. They were targeted while gathered in a relatively safe area away from the front lines, where they had come together for a night's rest, surrounded by live broadcast vehicles marked with press insignia, clearly indicating that all present were journalists. This location should have been a safe place for journalists to gather. These crimes against journalists cannot go unpunished, and the international silence puts the lives of more journalists and civilians at extreme risk. Silencing the media in wars paves the way for major crimes against humanity. May the martyrs Ghassan Najjar, Mohammad Reda, and Wissam Qassem rest in peace.
