Maharat Developed a study on News Coverage of Positive Initiatives by Lebanese Media. The research question relates to the role of media in giving prominence to and encouraging initiatives, projects and activities undertaken by individuals or associations that aim at rejecting violence, discrimination and strengthening civil peace in Lebanon.
This study works on inspecting “Violence Portrayed in Media” and on studying its repercussions on all levels, including the social, political and educations levels. The study covers the Lebanese news media, which had signed the “Journalists’ Pact for Strengthening Civil Peace in Lebanon” and that was officially launched by UNDP on June 25, 2013.
This study is one among five studies launched by the Maharat foundation, in collaboration with the UNDP “Peace Building in Lebanon” project for the year 2015.
The study examines how the Lebanese media will deal with women during municipal elections in May 2016.
Media plays a fundamental role in expressing the nature of the Lebanese cultural and artistic movement with its diverse faces, and keeping abreast of this movement and the changes that occur in it throughout its long history.
Controversial issues are common in Lebanon, in the environmental, political, economic, social or other fields. Different media outlets continuously try to leak contradictory news, some attributed to known sources while others to anonymous ones, with the purpose of “supporting the facts” that they publish and which often contradict other facts attributed to other sources.
