LGBT issues and the media in Lebanon
LGBT issues and the media in Lebanon is a study that aims at analyzing media performance while covering issues related to LGBT community in Lebanon. The study also aims at highlighting specific cases and analyzing them to present the positive and negative sides of the media coverage within the framework of inclusive media in the Lebanese society.
In the first section, this study addresses article 534 of the Lebanese penal code which is used to criminalize LGBT community in Lebanon and the two penal sentences in the years 2009 and 2014.
The second section of the study refers to human and LGBT rights in terms of the examinations LGBT community have to take. This section highlights the human rights defenders actions to prevent such examinations.
The third section shows case studies about media coverage of issues that attracted the Lebanese public opinion: “Plaza cinema”, “Hammam Al-Agha” and “Ghost nightclub” issues.
