Media Coverage of Danniyeh Region

Between December 1999 and January 2000, the Lebanese army clashed with Islamist militants in the Danniyeh, and the name of the area has since been linked to security incidents.

What is the extent of the media's interest in Danniyeh issues and its position on the media agenda in general and the North in particular? What are the prevailing stereotypes about the region? Two questions Maharat tried to answer through a monitoring study entitled "Coverage of Danniyeh Region in the Media", prepared by the Dean of the media faculty at the Lebanese University Dr. George Sadaqa and the researcher Dr. Roy Greigiri.

Between February and March 2016, the study monitored the news Bulletins of seven TV stations: LBCI, Al Jadeed, MTV, OTV, Future TV, Al Manar, and the public broadcast Tele Liban. The monitoring also included the weekly program "Mirrors of the North" on Tele Liban, and the content of 6 national newspapers: Annahar, Assafir, Diyar, Al-Mustaqbal, Al-Akhbar and Al-Jumhuriya. It relied on two references as an indicator in the analytical study: the local magazine Sada al-Danniyeh and the National News Agency.

The study determines a number of conclusions and recommendations regarding the weakness of the media in the regions.. There is a lack of media effort to shed lights on the region, hear the voice of its people, improve its image and promote its advantages. However, media promotes a negative image about this region.
