Social Protection in Lebanon: Programs Facing Obstacles and a Comprehensive National Strategy Approved
This report was prepared by Maharat Foundation with the aim of monitoring and evaluating the developments related to the social protection system in Lebanon, especially in light of the approval of the National Social Protection Strategy, which is supposed to secure the rights of all citizens equally.
However, the social protection system in Lebanon still faces many challenges, including slow implementation of laws, administrative and legislative delays, significant funding shortages, as well as conflicts between the legislative authority and donor agencies.
Given all these challenges, Maharat Foundation concluded the report with a set of recommendations to overcome these obstacles and achieve the implementation of a comprehensive and sustainable social protection system for all segments of society.
This report is part of a series of reports produced by Maharat Foundation to track the progress of reforms highlighted in the Lebanon Reform, Recovery and Reconstruction Framework (3RF) which is part of a comprehensive response to the massive explosion on the Port of Beirut on August 4, 2020, launched by the European Union (EU), the United Nations (UN) and the World Bank Group (WBG).
