Maharat Chairs the Internet Governance Forum's Multistakeholder Advisory Group (MAG)

With the start of preparation for the 2nd Lebanese Internet Governance Forum LIGF, the Multistakeholder Advisory Group (MAG) held a meeting on June 28th 2019 at the ministry of communication.

During the meeting Maharat was elected chair of the advisory committee and the ministry of communication as vice chair. The internal bylaws of the committee were discussed during the meeting to define the objectives, and work mechanisms for the Lebanese Internet Governance Forum. In addition the attendees saved the 19th and 20th of November 2019 as a date to hold the 2nd Lebanese IGF.

The advisory committee will hold consecutive meetings to discuss preparations and workshops to launch the Lebanese IGF, which is a national initiative that aims at raising the debate about internet governance issues in Lebanon among multistakeholders who represent public, private, academic sectors and civil society.

It is to note that the first Lebanese IGF was held on the 28th of November 2018 at the American University of Beirut AUB under the patronage of the Prime Minister Saad Hariri. The LIGF highlighted through a series of sessions and workshops many issues related to internet infrastructure, privacy, freedom of expression, and internet governance.
